From today until 28 th of March artistic proposals can be submitted via the web at riudart.cat
Today, 15 th of February, we open the call for applications for the residency of national and international artists, known as Riu d'art, held in June in Riba-roja d'Ebre, which this year will be in it's fourth edition. Up until 28 th of March, proposals can be submitted via the web www.riudart.cat. The jury's decision, formed by people related to the world of art and Riba-roja, will be announced in the first week of April, so that the final chosen artists will have 2 months before the event, which takes place from the 10 th to 22 th of June.
Riu d'art is an initiative organised by the Youth Councillor of the Town Hall of Riba-roja d'Ebre, with the Cultural Association of Riba Rocks, and is open to artists of all nationalities, of any age. As art is as a transversal and dynamic practice, the project offers artists a two-week stay in the town to develop their artistic proposal, as well as getting to know and making connections with the other local and international artists. The organisation will provide the appropriate urban spaces where the artists will create their works: walls, facades, gardens, ...this year, from the proposals that are presented, there won't be previously selected locations, thus encouraging the creativity of participants.
The call is open to all artistic disciplines. We will assess the proposal's integration with the environment, and the relation to the historical, social and cultural context of Riba-roja. This year the financial support has increased: 300 euros for travel and 200 for the work of each artist and the material. The accommodation and meals during the stay are covered by the organisation.
To date, and after three editions, twenty artistic interventions have already been created in Riba-roja with the participation of artists from three of the five continents of the world: United Kingdom, Singapore, Chile, Austria and the United States, plus riba-rojans and national artists. And this year the expectations are very positive: "We are hoping for a high level of participation this year, as the previous edition was such a success ", says the Youth Councillor, Francesc Esteve, saying that "this year, before posting the call, we have received several proposals already. Moreover, artists from previous years have told us that they want to return to participate in the project which encourages and reassures us to continue developing the project".
The festival was born in 2016, when a pilot was held with riba-rojan artists, as well as British and Finnish artists; six artists participated in the 2nd edition, from 11 proposals; and last year, in the third edition, they chose from 28, ten of which created their work in different areas of town. The Art School of Riba-roja also participated the last two editions.
This has culminated in a Riu d'art 'route' around various village locations. The initiative is part of recovery strategy of the historic centre of the village of Riba-roja. The fact that the majority of the works are in open spaces and in an enclave next to the Ebro river, it aims, and has the prospect of converting the streets of Ribarroja into a large outdoor art gallery.
