‘Identitat’

In 2017, the talented artist Ekaitz Sanchez left an indelible mark on the walls of Riba-roja with a vibrant mural that seamlessly blends graphic design with street art. Employing bold blocks of color, Sanchez transformed the urban canvas into a striking tableau of visual expression. However, the mural’s significance goes beyond its aesthetic appeal.

In a nod to the rich cultural heritage of Riba-roja, Sanchez incorporated the lyrics of a local song celebrating the town’s identity. Each stroke of paint serves as a homage to the community’s spirit and resilience, echoing the sentiments of the song that resonate deeply with locals. By intertwining art and music, Sanchez not only creates a visually captivating mural but also fosters a sense of pride and belonging among residents.

As viewers engage with the mural, they are invited to reflect on the essence of Riba-roja’s identity, encapsulated in both visual and lyrical form. Through his innovative fusion of graphic design, street art, and local culture, Ekaitz Sanchez invites us to rediscover the beauty and vitality of our shared heritage.

Ekaitz (24), living in Reus, “I’m inquisitive and proactive by nature. I think every project calls for a unique process of creation and research, and I like focusing on sensations and added value in design. In a globalised world, I try to use projects to tell stories retrieved from the past.”
